History

An exclusive getaway within South Africa’s Limpopo Province.

In 2004, on 2500 hectares of barren and untouched wilderness, the founder of Lejwe La Metsi had a vision of creating a completely secluded African paradise just 90 minutes from Johannesburg.

Having recruited the most reputable architects and landscapers to bring his vision to life, he decided to nestle the lodge in a majestic valley, providing both scenic views of the surrounding mountain faces and the utmost privacy. The originally desolate land was then carefully crafted to facilitate the building of the lodge area, whilst maintaining and showcasing the natural wonders and beauty of the land.

ABOUT

Bela Bela

The reserve is located near the charming town of Bela Bela (once called Warmbaths) – named for the geothermal hot springs around which it was built. ‘Bela Bela’ comes from Northern-Sotho for ‘boiling, boiling’ – describing the world famous springs first discovered in the 1800’s by pioneering Europeans.

Known for its small town feel, visitors to Bela Bela can explore the numerous restaurants, coffee shops and small stores in the area. The town is one of the most popular health and family-holiday destinations in South Africa, with numerous Big 5 reserves, golf courses and adventurous activities to try against the backdrop of the scenic Waterberg countryside.
